Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo
The Houston Livestock Show and RodeoTM is held at The Reliant Park Sports & Entertainment Complex across from the Crowne Plaza Houston near Reliant Park / Medical Center hotel each March.
The year was 1931, the start of a very meaningful Houston event, The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo! This 20-day, yearly event has shaped many a young Texan’s life. The fanfare starts with the Downtown Rodeo Roundup, held near Houston City Hall, the Downtown Rodeo Parade and the Conoco Phillips Rodeo Run and then the World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest.
“Go Texan Day”, a Houston tradition, is held the Friday before the Houston Rodeo and it encourages all Houstonians to don their cowboy best: cowboy boots, hats and shirts and jeans. The World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest, aka, The Cook-off, is a 3-day event where more than 250 teams vie to be the champs. This is a hot ticket; usually admission is by invitation only!
Some top named performers have graced the stage for the Houston Livestock Show & RodeoTM – to name a few: Gene Autry, Brooks & Dunn, Reba McEntire, Elvis Presley, Charlie Pride, Roy Rogers and George Strait.
